An IBCLC is the highest level credential for health care professionals who specialize in the clinical management of breastfeeding. IBCLCs are certified by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners, Inc.
Strictly speaking, the term Lactation Consultant is for someone who is an IBCLC.
Of course you will! Every breastfeeding journey is different. How your body was during your last lactation journey(s) does not determine how it will be the next time round.
If you battled issues like latching difficulties, low milk supply, mastitis, etc, getting breastfeeding support earlier (ideally 2nd-3rd trimester onward) will equip you with strategies to manage or even help prevent breastfeeding issues the next time round. Then, you can feel empowered and confident when challenges come your way!
The first few days and weeks is a vulnerable period. I recommend having the first session as soon as possible so that any difficulties or doubts can be addressed earlier to ensure the best management of your breastfeeding journey. Prevention is always better than cure! This will help you and your village to be better equipped to care for your baby.
We will first feed the baby! We will start with a breastfeeding assessment to see how you and baby are doing, and address your specific concern. From there, I will provide suggestions on how to improve the feeding if necessary and you may clarify any doubts that you have.
Follow-ups are necessary to enquire that my care plan is working well for you. If you have purchased 4th Trimester Support with 2 sessions and you find that you do not require a follow-up, you can utilise the extra session for Back to Work Consultation.
